The Short Story: At a snow-covered Don Shula Stadium, host John Carroll scored a pair of goals in a six-minute span in the second half to defeat the 25
th-ranked John Hopkins men's soccer team in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Â
How it Happened
• Hopkins got on the board in the 20
th minute after the Blue Jays drew a penalty kick. Connor Robinson made a kick-save on senior
Liam Creedon's attempt, but Creedon ran onto the rebound and buried a shot into the right side of the goal.
• The Blue Streaks turned up the pressure after that, getting 13 shots off in the final 25 minutes of the first half. Graduate student
Xander LeFevre turned away all five shots that got through to him during that stretch.
• John Carroll drew level in the 65
th minute when Benjamin Hryszko headed home a cross from James Hoover. Just six minutes later, on a counter attack, Hryszko drew a pair of defenders and then centered the ball to Jack Foht. He one-timed a right-footed shot past a diving LeFevre and into the left side of the goal.
• Less than two minutes later, graduate student
Nate CHarendoff had a great look at the equalizer but Robinson tipped it over the crossbar. Senior
Jason Werenski then missed just wide on a shot off the ensuing corner kick.
