The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team went 1-2 at the Columbia Invitational, earning a big win over the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

How it Happened
• Hopkins kicked off the day with a 15-12 win over NJIT. JHU dominated the Sabre, 8-1, but dropped close decisions in the Epee (6-3) and Foil (5-4). Juniors
David DeScherer and
Sachin Mehta each won all three of their bouts to lead the Sabre squad. Freshman
Ethan Kim led the Epee squad with two wins in three bouts. And in the Foil, freshman
Alan Zheng earned two wins to lead the Blue Jays.
• The Blue Jays then lost a close 14-13 match to the Ducks. The Sabre squad earned a 6-3 win for the Blue Jays, while the Ducks took the Foil (5-4) and the Epee (6-3). Mehta led the Sabre squad with three wins, while sophomore
William Hu won two of his three. Kim again led the Blue Jays in the Epee with two wins, while senior
Evan Lau led the Foil squad with two wins.
• Hopkins then squared off against the home team and earned a 6-3 win in the Epee. Mehta and DeScherer each earned a win in the Sabre (7-2) for JHU. Sophomore
Gabe Insler won all three of his bouts to lead the Epee squad to the win. In the Foil, Zheng won two of his three bouts for the Blue Jays.

What it Means
• Hopkins snapped a six-game losing streak to NJIT, earning its first win over the Highlanders since 2016.
