The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team picked up its first win of the season, beating Stevens at the Columbia Invitational.

How it Happened
• Hopkins opened the day with a 16-11 loss to NJIT but earned a win in the Foil. Senior
Cherlin Zhu and sophomores
Jenny Song and
Grace Van Atta each won a bout for the Blue Jays in the Sabre (6-3). Sophomore
Diya Kulkarni and freshman
Ameera Ebrahim each earned a win in the Epee (7-2). In the Foil, senior
Miya Herman and sophomore
Czarina Alfonso each won two bouts to lead JHU to a 6-3 win.
• JHU then defeated Stevens, 19-8, while sweeping all three weapons. Junior
Alex McDonald won all three of her bouts to lead the Foil squad to a 7-2 win. The Epee squad earned a 7-2 win, led by sophomore
Maya Zhang and freshman
Katelyn McShine with three wins each. And in the Sabre, Song led the Blue Jays with three wins, including the clinching win as JHU won 5-4.
• Hopkins wrapped up the day with a 23-4 loss to Columbia, the 2019 NCAA Champions. The Foil squad fell 9-0 to the Lions. In the Epee, Zhang, McShine and junior
Alex Szwecz each earned a win for the Blue Jays. And in the Sabre (8-1), Van Atta picked up a win for Hopkins.

• Hopkins improves to 35-10 all-time against Stevens and earns its fourth straight win over the Ducks.
