The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins water polo team beat Mount St. Mary's, 9-7, on Sunday to finish in seventh place at the 2021 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championship.

How it Happened
• Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals from junior

Jayden Kunwar and freshman
Ian Raley. Jason O'Donnell ended the Blue Jays' run with a goal at 2:26 to get the Mount on the board. Senior
Jake Pearson answered as the clock ticked under a minute and Hopkins took a 4-1 lead into the second.
• Mount St. Mary's rallied in the second quarter, outscoring JHU 3-0 to make it a 4-4 game at the half.
• Sophomore
Cameron Burns and Kunwar scored back-to-back goals in the first 91 seconds of the third to put Hopkins on top 6-4. Mount St. Mary's responded with goals from Kiahi Horan and O'Donnell to tie the game at six heading into the fourth.
• The Mount picked up where they left off, getting a goal from Zach Fischer to take their first lead of the game with 6:39 to play. The lead was short-lived however, as Kunwar scored exactly 60 seconds later to knot the score at seven. Graduate student
Olin Shipstead then scored with 4:33 to play to stake the Blue Jays to an 8-7 lead. Freese would add an insurance goal with 1:24 to play to seal the win for Hopkins.

• Hopkins improves to 2-1 all-time against Mount St. Mary's and has won the last two meetings with the Mount. All three meetings have been decided by a total of four goals.

• Hopkins will return to action on Saturday, December 4 at the 2021 USA Water Polo Division III Championship. The championship will take place in California and will be hosted by the winner of Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
