• The Short Story: JHU used a big second half, extending the lead from three to 18 to pick up a road victory over the Muhlenberg Mules on Saturday evening in Allentown, PA.

How it Happened

Dallas Hoffman opened up the game with a three for the Mules, but Hopkins responded with a 7-0 run, getting a layup from Tom Quarry, a three-pointer from Carson James and a jumper from Lincoln Yeutter. After a Mules bucket, Quarry drilled a triple off a feed from Yeutter with 16:13 left in the half to take a 10-5 lead. Dan Gaines scored the next four for the Mules and put them within one before the Jays hit another three, this one from Ethan Bartlett. Bartlett's three gave the Jays a 13-9 lead with 14:14 to go in the half.

Hopkins took its biggest lead of the half with 13:10 to go, getting a layup from Sidney Thybulle on Yeutter's third assist of the half. An 8-2 Mules run tied the contest at 17 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the half, but Quarry drilled his second triple to make it 20-17. However, the Jays lead lasted just 14 seconds as Nate Henty Brown knocked down a three in response to make it 20-20. Henty Brown hit another three with 8:28 to play, putting Muhlenberg in the lead, but Braeden Johnson got on the score sheet to cut it to one and Conner Delaney hit his first bucket of the half, a triple, to put the Jays back on top, 25-23.

Back-to-back threes put Muhlenberg up by four before Johnson tied in at 29 with 4:28 to go in the half. After trading free throws back and forth, Bartlett hit another triple with 1:39 to go in the first, giving the Jays a 36-32 lead. Gaines hit a triple for the Mules, but Thybulle finished off the half with a dunk to give Hopkins a three-point halftime lead.

The Jays started to pull away about eight minutes into the second half. Layups from Yeutter and Bartlett with 11:46 to go in the contest gave the Jays a 50-43 lead. The Mules hit a pair of free throws, but Delaney and James hit triples and just like that the Blue Jay lead was 11 with 10:37 to play. 37 seconds later, Quarry joined the barrage, hitting a three to make it 59-45 in favor of Hopkins. Dan Gaines traded threes with Carson James as the Mules cut it back to 11 with 8:48 to go.

Another bucket from Gaines cut the Jays lead to nine and gave him 22 points for the contest. Muhlenberg cut it to seven with 7:17 to go on a layup from Allen, but once again, it was Quarry who knocked down a big shot for JHU, making the lead nine with 5:27 to play. A free throw from Delaney and a three-pointer from Yeutter essentially put this one to bed as the Jays lead was 68-55 with just over four minutes remaining. Delaney hit the final dagger three with 2:29 to go as the Jays walked out of Memorial Hall with a 76-58 road victory.
