How it Happened
All 13 Blue Jays scored as Hopkins put up a season-high 91 points in a 62-point victory over Bryn Mawr on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore. The Jays led for 38:38 and outscored the Owls by 28 in the first half and 34 in the second.Â
Hopkins used a 9-0 run early on in the contest to jump out ahead of the Owls, 11-2. After a bucket from the Owls,
Diarra Oden knocked down a three to spark another big run, this time a 16-2 one to put the Blue Jays up by 21 at the end of the first. After Oden's three,
Greta Miller scored eight of the team's next 13 points to give her 10 for the quarter.Â
The Jays continued the domination to start the second period,
Christine Corpuz stole the ball and found
Natalie Mann on the fast break for the first bucket of the period to give the Jays a 23-point lead.
Erin Walsh followed with a put back off of a Corpuz miss before Oden knocked down another three to put the Jays up by 28. Sophie Debettencourt picked up a steal and then knocked down a triple off a Corpuz feed to start the quarter off with a 10-0 run for the Jays who now led by 31. The Owls scored the next six before
Abby St. Onge got on the board with an offensive rebound and a bucket with 3:48 to play in the half. Miller finished another layup with 2:56 to go in the half to give her 12 points for the contest and put the Jays up by 26. JHU hit four more free throws before the halftime buzzer, heading into the locker room with a 45-17 lead.Â
A quick 6-0 run to start the second half swelled the lead to 34 as
Jadyn Murray got on the board followed by a pair of fast break layups for Oden to get her to 14 points on the day. Leading by 35 with under four to go in the period, Debettencourt and Corpuz hit back-to-back threes to make it 65-24 Hopkins.
Maya Johnson got her first bucket of the contest with 1:15 left in the quarter after a
Kara Milliken offensive rebound and slick find for Johnson to lay in. Corpuz got to the bucket and finished with 20 seconds left to end the third with a 43-point Blue Jay lead.Â
The final quarter was much of the same for Hopkins, outscoring the Owls 22-3.
Aleah Spruell joined the fun, hitting two threes in the first minute and change of the quarter to make the Jays lead 75-26. St. Onge made it a 53-point lead with 6:24 left to play, scoring off a beautiful feed from Johnson. Corpuz hit her second three of the contest and Johnson followed with five straight, as she knocked down a three to make it 89-27 with 2:33 to play. The Blue Jays ended it with a 91-29 victory over the Owls, improving them to 6-2 on the season.Â
