The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team wrapped up the Elite Invitational with wins over UC San Diego and Wayne State.

How it Happened
• Hopkins opened the day with a 21-6 loss to host Ohio State as the Buckeyes won each weapon by a 7-2 score. Sophomores
Sanya Bawa and
Jenny Song each won a bout for the Sabre squad. For the Epee squad, freshman
Ameera Ebrahim and sophomore
Diya Kulkarni did the same. And in the Foil, junior
Alex McDonald and sophomore
Czarina Alfonso each won one bout.
• The Blue Jays then defeated the UC San Diego Tritons, 17-10, with wins by the Epee (6-3) and Foil (7-2) squads. Bawa and Song won two bouts each in a tough 5-4 loss for the Sabre squad. Kulkarni then won all three of her bouts to lead the Epee squad. And in the Foil, McDonald went 3-0 to lead the Blue Jays.
• Hopkins followed with a 22-5 win over Wayne State with a sweep of all three weapons. Bawa, Song and senior
Cherlin Zhu combined for a 9-0 win by the Sabre squad. Junior
Alex Szewc won all three of her bouts to lead the Epee squad to a 7-2 win. McDonald again won all three of her bouts to lead the Foil squad to a 6-3 win.
• JHU wrapped up the day against a tough Notre Dame squad. Bawa and Song each won a bout in the Sabre (2-7). Kulkarni and Szewc each earned a win for the Epee squad (2-7) while McDonald won two of her three bouts for the Foil squad (2-7).

What it Means
• With her fifth win of the day, McDonald became the second Blue Jay of the weekend to reach her 100th career win.Â
