Blue Jays Make It 10 Straight Wins With Dominant Doubleheader Sweep

GAME ONE
• Score: Johns Hopkins - 7, Muhlenberg College - 2
• Records: JHU (10-3) • MC (5-5, 4-5)
• Pitching Decision: W: Peter Schaefer (4-2) • L – Quinn Rovner (1-1)
• The Short Story: AJ King drove in five of the Blue Jays seven runs & Peter Schaefer struck out a career-high 15 to lead Hopkins to a 7-2 win in game one.

How it Happened
• In the bottom of the first, a leadoff walk issue to Ryan Hebert came back to bite Schaefer. The sophomore right-hander struck out the next batter, but Hebert stole second to move into scoring position. After another Schaefer strikeout, Christian Schwarz found the gap in right-center, scoring Hebert with an RBI double for a 1-0 Muhlenberg lead.
• AJ King tied it for the Blue Jays with an RBI single in the top of the third. Mark Lopez led the inning off with a single to center, advancing to second on a base-hit from Dai Dai Otaka. Lopez moved over to third on a fly ball to right field and then scored on a single through the left side off the bat of King.
• After a 1-2-3 fourth, the Blue Jays struck gold in the top of the fifth. Lopez once again started things off with a single. Otaka walked to put two on with nobody out. A throwing error loaded the bases for King who proceeded to deposit the ball over the wall in left on the first pitch. It was the first career grand slam for King and the second by the Blue Jays this season. Still in the fifth, leading 5-1, Mike Ainsworth singled to left to score David Harding and extend the lead to 6-1.
• The Mules knocked one off the deficit in the bottom of the seventh, getting a solo shot from Caleb Tereska with one away. Schaefer settled back in and retired the next four hitters before allowing a single and a walk in the eighth.
• Jared deFaria left the yard for the third straight game in the top of the ninth to give the Blue Jays an extra insurance run.

Inside the Box Score
• After earning the Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week honor two times in-a-row, Schaefer went out and did it AGAIN. The sophomore threw his first-ever complete game, allowing just four hits, two runs and striking out 15! Schaefer is just the fifth Blue Jay pitcher in recorded history to strike out 15 in a contest. Alex Ross was the last to do so back in 2018. In Schaefer's last four starts, he has totaled 29 innings, allowed four runs and struck out 39 hitters.
• deFaria went 2-5 in the contest with a homer, his third in three games. deFaria has a hit in eight of the last nine contests for JHU and has driven in a run in five-of-six.
• King hit his first career grand slam and third career homer for Hopkins. The junior had never driven in more than three runs in a contest prior to today's five RBI game.
• Lopez added another three-hit game to his total, giving him seven hits in his last 11 at-bats, raising his season average to .345.

GAME TWO
• Score: Johns Hopkins - 10, Muhlenberg - 2
• Records: JHU (11-3) • MC (5-6, 4-6)
• Pitching Decision: W: Kieren Collins (4-0) • L: Sam Kelstein (0-1)
• The Short Story: The Blue Jays scored in each of the first four innings to jump out to a 7-0 lead en route to a 10-2 victory over the Mules.

How it Happened
• Hopkins jumped on top, getting three sacrifice flys in the first three innings. In the first, Dai Dai Otaka led things off with a single, advancing on a walk and a lineout before scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jared deFaria. In the second inning, David Harding led off with a single, moved to second on a bunt single, advanced to third on a fly-out in foul territory and then scored on an RBI sac fly from Mark Lopez. In the third, AJ King reached base on a one-out walk, deFaria doubled to center, moving King to third. Austin Sacks flew out to center and King scored for a 3-0 JHU lead.
• JHU broke it open in the top fourth. James Ingram crushed his third home run of the season to deep left to start off the inning. Mike Ainsworth walked and advanced to second on a base-hit from Otaka. Matthew Ritchie singled to center, scoring Ainsworth for a 5-0 lead. After a pitching change, an error loaded the bases for JHU. Sacks drew a two-out walk to score Otaka and Harding brought home Ritchie with a hit-by-pitch, extending the lead to seven.
• Leading 8-0 in the ninth, Isaiah Winikur led off the inning with a home run to left, his third of the season. Justin Nam hit a pinch-hit double and came around to score on an RBI single from freshman James Stevens.
• The Mules added two in the bottom of the ninth, but it was ultimately a 10th straight victory for the Blue Jays.
