Wellmann, Schuermann Earn Centennial Player of the Week Honors

Blue Jays Nab Two of Three Weekly Awards From Centennial Conference

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins University wide receiver/return specialist Harrison Wellmann and sophomore defensive lineman Luke Schuermann have been named the Centennial Conference's Special Teams and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for their efforts in the Blue Jays' 54-6 win at Moravian on Saturday.  The win improved Hopkins' record to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Centennial Conference.

Wellmann earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors after he returned two kickoffs for touchdowns in the win over the Greyhounds.  His two returns for touchdowns, which covered 90 and 73 yards, are a Johns Hopkins single-game record and tie the NCAA Division III single-game record.  He is now averaging 57.3 yards on three kickoff returns this season, jumped to seventh in school history in career kickoff return yards (889) with his two for 163 yards at Moravian and now has a school-record three kickoff returns for touchdowns in his career.  Wellmann added seven receptions for 72 yards to ring up 235 all-purpose yards in the victory.

Schuermann fueled a Johns Hopkins defensive effort that limited the Greyhounds to the six points, 30 yards rushing and just 226 yards of total offense.  He posted five tackles, including three for losses and two sacks in the win.  He forced a fumble on one of his sacks that was scooped up by fellow defensive lineman Nick DiFiore and returned 44 yards for a touchdown.  He now counts 15 tackles and team-highs of 8.5 tackles for losses and 5.0 sacks to his credit this season.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Saturday, October 2 when the Blue Jays welcome Franklin & Marshall (1-3, 1-2 CC) to Homewood Field.  Kickoff is set for 1 pm.
