How it Happened
Johns Hopkins forced Franklin & Marshall into 32 turnover and outscored the Diplomats 41-29 in the second half to earn its eighth straight victory on Thursday night in Lancaster, PA. The 32 turnovers are the most forced for Hopkins since a 73-6 win over Bryn Mawr in 2014.Â
The first 20 minutes of the contest was light on the scoring front as the Blue Jays trailed 15-12 at the break with
Diarra Oden scoring nine of the team's 12. The Jays forced 19 first half turnovers, preventing Franklin & Marshall from finding any sort of rhythm on the offensive side.
The Jays hit the switch in the third quarter, scoring 19 points to jump out ahead. The Diplomats scored the first bucket of the second half to go up 17-12, but the Jays started a 10-0 run to get on top.
Greta Miller pulled down an offensive board and scored on the putback to start the run for the Jays. After a
Jadyn Murray steal, Miller hit a free throw, cutting the deficit to two. Oden scored with 8:08 to play in the third, tying the contest at 17 and tacking on a free throw for a three-point play and the lead. The run continued with layups from Murray and
Erin Walsh and less than four minutes into the half, the Blue Jays swung the game in their direction, taking a 22-17 lead. Walsh's bucket started a stretch of seven straight points for the senior center as she traded buckets with the Diplomats. A free throw with 2:36 left in the third gave Hopkins a 27-23 lead before
Emily Howie added to it with a jumper just over a minute later. Franklin & Marshall scored the next three points, but Howie scored again just before the third quarter buzzer sounded and the Jays went into the fourth with a 31-26 lead.Â
Miller and Murray scored baskets to start the fourth quarter and just over two minutes into the final period, the Jays extended the lead to nine. Franklin & Marshall cut it to five with 6:21 left to play, but Oden knocked in a pair of free throws and stretched it back to seven. Leading by five with 2:53 to play, Oden went to the free throw line once again, knocking down a pair and putting JHU ahead 40-33. A
Kristin Ralston bucket with 1:53 put Hopkins ahead by six and then Oden drilled a three thirty seconds later to put Hopkins ahead 45-36. The Blue Jays shot 8-8 from the charity stripe in the final 30 seconds, putting the finishing touches on a 53-44 road win.Â
