STATEN ISLAND, NY – Host Wagner held off the Johns Hopkins water polo team to win 16-12 Sunday morning in MAWPC action.

Ian Raley gave the Blue Jays an early 1-0 lead with a six-on-five goal. The Seahawks answered with five straight however to take a 5-1 lead two minutes into the second. Junior
Cameron Burns ended the run with a strike at 5:10, but back-to-back Wagner goals pushed its lead to five midway through the quarter.

Paul Gensbigler scored a man-up goal, followed by an even-strength goal from Raley and the Blue Jays were within three. Barnabas Vidovics got one back for the Seahawks and they led 8-4 at the half. Wagner came out of the half firing with three unanswered to push out to an 11-4 lead. The teams then traded goals over the ensuing seven minutes and Wagner led 14-7 with 7:25 to play.
Raley scored his third of the game to spark a three-goal Blue Jay run as they trimmed the deficit to four with 3:20 on the clock. The Seahawks answered with goals from Angelo Zaina and Karl Lovett to go up 16-10. Raley and graduate student
Emerson Sullivan added goals in the final 80 seconds to trim the Seahawks' lead to four.
