BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins graduate students
Rachel Jackson and
Breukelen Woodard both scored two goals and the fourth-ranked Blue Jay women's soccer team posted its sixth consecutive shutout with a 4-0 victory over visiting Gettysburg at Homewood Field Wednesday night. The Blue Jays improve to 8-0-2 overall and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference, while the Bullets slip to 4-5-1 overall and 2-3 in the CC.
Â
Jackson scored both of her goals in a span of just over three minutes early in the game to stake the Blue Jays to an early 2-0 lead. After posting up a defender at the top of the box, she took a pass from freshman
Annie Isphording, turned quickly to her right to side-step her defender and ripped a shot into the upper part of the net just 15:37 into the game. In the 19
th minute, Isphording carried the ball to the top of the box before slipping the ball to her right, where Jackson one-touched it past a defender and stuck her second of the night past a diving
Caitlin Amman in goal.
Â
Woodard came on late in the first half and made an immediate impact. Working in the middle of the box, she took a perfect feed from the wing from
Lily Gaston and redirected one home from six yards out in the 42
nd minute to give the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead at the half. Less than three minutes into the second half, Woodard completed her two-goal night when she collected a feed from sophomore
Katie Sullivan near the top of the box to Amman's right and fired one to the far corner to close out the scoring.
Â
Emma Huntzinger and
Divya Inaganti combined on the shutout in goal for the Blue Jays, who outshot the Bullets 26-3 and took five of the seven corners in the game. Inganti was forced to make just one save, while Amman posted six saves in goal for the Bullets..
Â
Johns Hopkins will return to action on Saturday, October 8 when the Blue Jays travel to Washington College for a Centennial Conference matchup against the Shorewomen (1 pm).
Â
Notes of Interest: The six straight shutouts are the most consecutive for the Blue Jays since 2013, when they posted eight straight late in the season; the Blue Jays have not allowed a goal in 579:01. Jackson's two goals give her 36 in her career – she is just the seventh player in school history to score 35 or more goals. She also moved into fifth place on JHU's career points list as her four points tonight give her 86 in her career.
