POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The second-ranked Johns Hopkins men's fencing team won all six of its duals at the Vassar Invitational. Senior
Danny Comer earned his 100
th career win with his eighth win of the day.
Hopkins opened the day by cruising to a 26-1 win over Denison. Senior

Larry Cai led the Sabre squad (8-1) with three wins each. Sophomore
Alan Zheng and freshmen
Spencer Grossman Smisek and
Pranav Shibu combined for nine wins in the Foil. Comer, sophomore
Ethan Kim and freshman
Matthew Dao did the same for the Epee squad.
Hopkins followed with an 18-9 win over sixth-ranked Drew, the first of two matches on the day versus the Rangers. The Blue Jays swept all three weapons to earn the win. DeScherer, senior
Sachin Mehta and junior
William Hu each won two bouts in a 6-3 win over the Sabre. Junior
Anthony Bae won all three of his bouts to lead the Foil squad to a 7-2 win. And in the Epee, Dao won all three of his bouts while freshman
Jorge Gana clinched the win (5-4) with a win in the final bout.
The Blue Jays then beat the Long Island University Sharks, 24-3. Cai, DeScherer and Mehta each won two bouts to pace the Sabre squad to a 6-3 win. Bae, Grossman Smisek and Shibu combined for nine wins in the Foil. Comer, Gana and junior
Gabe Insler each won three bouts for the Epee squad.
JHU earned a second win over Drew, beating the Rangers 24-3. Cai and Mehta earned three wins each to lead the Sabre squad to an 8-1 win. Grossman Smisek and Zheng did the same for the Foil squad (8-1). Dao and Comer also combined for six wins to lead the Epee squad (8-1).
Hopkins swept all three weapons to defeat Cleveland State, 20-7. Hu and Cai combined for six wins in an 8-1 win in the Sabre. Zheng won all three of his bouts and Bae clinched the win in the final bout as the Foil squad won 5-4. Insler led the Epee squad to a 7-2 win by winning all three of his bouts.
Hopkins beat Vassar 18-9 and swept all three weapons. Hu led the Sabre squad (7-2) with three wins, while Isnler did the same for the Epee squad (6-3). Grossman Smisek led the Foil squad to a 5-4 win by winning all three of his bouts, including the clinching win.
The Blue Jays closed out the day with a 19-8 win over the Sacred Heart Pioneers. Hu and Mehta won two bouts each, with Hu clinching the win in the final bout as the Sabre squad won 5-4. Grossman Smisek and Zheng combined for six wins to lead the Foil squad (7-2). And in the Epee (7-2), Dao, Comer and Gana won two bouts each.
Hu (95 wins), Insler (94 wins) and Zheng (90 wins) are all closing in on the 100
th win of their careers. Mehta moved into 15
th place in program history with 180 career wins in the Sabre.
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, November 18 at the Columbia Invitational.
