Box Score BRONX, NY – The Johns Hopkins water polo team lost to McKendree, 13-8, in the seventh-place game of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championship Sunday.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the game's opening four and a half minutes. Freshman
Gavin Brooke end the run and got the Blue Jays on the board at 2:54 with a six-on-five goal. Nico Rodriguez opened the second with a goal to put McKendree up 6-1. Graduate student
Emerson Sullivan answered a minute later, but the Bearcats responded with three straight to take a 9-2 lead into the half.
Hopkins came out firing to start the third quarter, scoring three straight goals to pull within four at the 4:21-mark. Tony Sungawa converted a five-meter shot to halt the run at 3:26, but
Ian Raley answered 63 seconds later to make it a four-goal game. Josh Carlson had the final say however, scoring with 1:22 left to put McKendree up 11-6 heading into the fourth.
The Bearcats scored two straight to open the fourth and push their lead to 13-6. Raley and senior
Kami Eslami scored back-to-back goals to pull the Blue Jays back within five, but that's as close as they could get.
