How it Happened
• Both
Kieren Collins and Elijah Cohen struck out the side in the first inning, before both scoring a run in the second. With one away in the inning,
Sam Frank tripled and then was driven in by an
AJ King RBI single. With two away in the second, Clint Flippo drew a walk and then advanced to third on an error by
Jack Pausic. Charlie Furlong singled, scoring Flippo to tie the contest at 1-1.
• The Mules grabbed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning, getting the leadoff hitter to second after an error by
Jared deFaria. Two batters later, Cole Palmeri singled, bringing Brady O'Brien home.
• The Jays struck for four in the fourth, taking the lead for good and holding Colby scoreless the rest of the way.
Tripp Myers,
Jack Pausic and
Sam Frank were all hit by pitches consecutively, loading the bases for King. The senior captain stayed hot after yesterday's performance and drove in two with a single.
Dillon Souvignier brought another run home with an RBI single as the Jays took a 4-2 lead.
Dylan Whitney brought home King with a fielder's choice to put Hop on top 5-2. In the fifth, Myers singled and advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Frank brought him home with an RBI double.
• Already leading by four, the Jays busted the game open by matching the inning with the amount of runs scored. Souvignier opened the inning with a single, advancing to third on a
Shawn Steuerer double. A passed ball brought the first run of the inning home and moved Steuerer up to third. An RBI single from Whitney extended the Jays lead to six. With one away,
Matthew Cooper doubled, putting runners on second and third. Now with two away, Pausic tripled, driving in two runs to make it a 10-2 game. After a walk and a stolen base from Frank, King singled again, driving in two more to give Hopkins a 10-run lead.
• Collins held the line in the bottom of the sixth inning before
Sam Browning closed out the contest with a 1-2-3 inning to end the game in seven innings via the Russmatt mercy rule.
