• The Short Story: After falling behind 6-3 early,
Matthew Cooper hit a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning and
Matthew Dillard retired 20 of the last 21 hitters to help the Jays pick up a comeback victory over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon.Â
How it Happened
• The Jays trailed 6-3 entering the bottom of the sixth inning with Diplomat ace Kyle Roche still on the mound.

AJ King all singled to load up the bases with no outs. Roche retired the lead runner on a ground ball back to him and struck out pinch-hitter
Dillon Souvignier to make it bases loaded with two outs.
Matthew Cooper answered the call, destroying a ball out to left field, one-hopping the Cordish Lacrosse Center to give Johns Hopkins its first lead of the game, 7-6.
• Franklin & Marshall scored all six of their runs in the first three innings of the contest, scoring three in the first and three in the third. After
Matthew Dillard retired the first two batters of the contest, before allowing a two-out single to Bobby Falese. Jakob Hoffman crushed one over the left field wall, putting the Diplomats up 2-0. Will Samuel followed with a solo shot to make it 3-0 after one. Â In the third inning, Spencer Berson, Falese and Hoffman all hit solo homers, giving the Diplomats six runs on five homers in the first 2.1 innings of the contest.
• Hopkins answered F&M's three-run first in the bottom of the second, getting three back against Roche. deFaria singled and scored on an RBI double from
Isaiah Winikur. Winikur left the contest, coming up slowly on his way into second. King singled up the middle to score
Jake Siani the pinch runner. With two outs, Cooper singled on a ball that got lost in the sun down the right field line, scoring King to make it 3-3.
• Hopkins tied the game in the third inning, starting to turn the tide with a scoreless bottom half fromÂ
Jack Tarantino. Myers drew a one-out walk and moved up to third on anÂ
Isaiah Winikur double. deFaria doubled to left center, scoring the pair to make it 6-6 and give him three RBI on the day.Â
• JHU added a little insurance in the bottom of the seventh inning against F&M reliever Bijan Anvar as
Shawn Steuerer drove the ball to deep center. The ball caromed off the center field fence and the freshman was off and running, hitting an inside-the-park home run to make it 8-6.
• After allowing five homers in seven batters, Dillard settled into quite the groove, retiring 20 of the final 21 hitters, allowing just one base runner on an error in the eighth inning.
Inside the Box Score
• This was a big win for the Blue Jays, as they narrow Franklin & Marshall's lead in the Centennial Conference. The Dips fell to 8-1 while the Jays improved to 6-3. Hopkins has won 12 of 16 against F&M as the teams have split the last eight meetings. Â
• Cooper's slam was the second he's hit this season and the team's fourth, a five RBI day gives Cooper a team-best 28 RBI.
• Dillard completed his second game of the 2022 season, taking the team lead in innings pitched (50.2) and strikeouts (43).

GAME TWO
• Score: Johns Hopkins - 13, Franklin & Marshall - 6

• Pitching Decision: W: McRae (3-1) • L – Nieskens (5-2)
• The Short Story: The Blue Jays scored in five of the first six innings, jumping ahead of the Diplomats in the bottom of the third inning and holding onto a 13-6 victory to sweep the Diplomats on Saturday afternoon.

• Both teams pushed runs across the board in the first inning as the Diplomats used the longball once again to take an early lead. Berson was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a two-run homer from Falese. In the bottom half, deFaria singled to left advancing Cooper to third. Cooper scored as the left fielder Cettina misplayed the ball. King brought home a run with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2.
• Pausic struck in the bottom of the third inning, lining a one-out pitch over the 307 sign in left field. Pausic's solo shot gave the Jays a 3-2 lead, but it wasn't a one run lead for long.
Sam Frank drove a 3-1 pitch to right center field, just carrying enough to get out of Babb Field and give Hopkins a 4-2 lead.
• deFaria tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth, hitting the 11
th home run of the day, a shot to right center, to make it 5-2.
• Franklin & Marshall narrowed the gap to two in the top of the fifth inning, but
Jack McRae worked out of a bases loaded jam with one out to keep it a 5-3 game. Patrick Elliott picked up an infield single with one away and moved into scoring position after McRae issued a walk to Tommy Denlinger. Berson singled to left, scoring Elliott to make it a 5-3 game. McRae issued another walk to load the bases before getting an infield fly and a grounder to retire the side.
• A five run fifth inning broke the game open for Johns Hopkins. King smacked a two-run homer after Frank led off the inning with a single. Myers followed King up with a solo shot of his own and it was quickly 8-3.
James Ingram walked and stole second before Cooper homered for the second time today, a two-run blast to make it 10-3.
• The Diplomats scored two runs in the sixth, loading the bases and watching Jays pitching walk in two runs before
Hyunwoo Roh retired the side. The Jays got one of those runs back in the bottom, getting an RBI bunt single from Ingram to make it 11-5.
• F&M scored one more in the eighth, but the Blue Jays put the finishing touches on the contest with two more runs.Â

• Johns Hopkins will travel to Westminster, MD for a meeting with McDaniel on Wednesday.
