• The Short Story: The Blue Jays' offense was shut down Tuesday afternoon by Washington College in a 4-0 defeat in Chestertown, MD.
How it Happened
• After three scoreless innings from senior right-hander
Matthew Dillard, the Shoremen jumped on the opportunity when he left the game in the fourth inning.
Reed Bolin entered the contest and struck out the first batter he faced. With one away, Max Ruvo homered to right center, putting the first run of the day on the board. Bolin retired another batter before a
Shawn Steuerer error put Joe Curtin on base. Bolin hit Noah Iseman with a pitch and advanced both runners into scoring position with a wild pitch. Erik Risnychok singled past a diving
Dylan Whitney, scoring both runners to put Washington College up 3-0.
• The Shoremen tacked on another in the fifth inning off of junior right-hander
Hyunwoo Roh. Brandon Hoffman led off the inning with a single, moving to second after a hit-by-pitch of Ruvo and to third on a passed ball. Danny Sheeler grounded out to
Jack Walters at second, but brought home Hoffman. Only one of the four runs allowed by JHU pitching was earned.
• The Jays best scoring chance came all the way back in the second inning as they loaded the bases with one out.
Tripp Myers drew a leadoff walk and
Jack Pausic followed with a single to left. With one out, Myers swiped third before Whitney was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ryan Mostoller retired Walters and
Matthew Cooper to keep the Jays off the board.
Inside the Box Score
• Dillard has now allowed just one run in his last 16.0 innings on the mound. Over his last 19 innings, he has struck out 20 batters.
• Pausic had the only multi-hit day for the Jays, raising his season average to .321.
• With three games remaining, the Jays remain locked in a battle to try and lock in a spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament. Currently, the Jays sit 8-7. At the time of publication, it appears likely that Johns Hopkins, Dickinson, Washington College and Haverford will all be tied at 8-7 with three games remaining.
