Blue Jays Get Goals From Five Different Players

BALTIMORE, MD – The ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team scored three goals in each half and got goals from five different players in a 6-1 season-opening win against Catholic at Homewood Field Thursday evening.  The Blue Jays improve to 7-0 all-time against the Cardinals with tonight's victory.

The Blue Jays needed just over four minutes to breakthrough as graduate student Breukelen Woodard headed one home from five yards out off an assist from Kaleigh Gallagher.  The lead doubled 11 minutes later when Katie Sullivan notched the first of her two goals on the night and Rebecca Rosen made it 3-0 at the half with a strike in the final three minutes.

The Blue Jays put the game away with two goals in a four-minute span early in the second half as Sullivan notched her second just six minutes in as she poked a feed from Gallagher in the middle of the area into an open net, while Rachel Jackson added her first of the year four minutes later off a scramble in front of the goal.

Catholic avoided the shutout in the 80th minute as Peyton Coran sent a perfect through-ball to Lauren Carda who fired one past Emma Huntzinger to get the Cardinals on the board.  Calista Poulos closed the scoring for the Blue Jays with her first career goal with 14 seconds remaining.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Sunday, September 4 when the Blue Jays welcome Roanoke to Homewood Field (1 pm).

Notes of Interest:  The Blue Jays are now 17-5 in their last 22 home openers and have won five straight • Johns Hopkins held a 27-5 advantage in shots and took five of the six corner kicks in the game • The six goals are the most in a season-opener for the Blue Jays since 2002, when Hopkins topped Goucher, 6-0.
