BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team scored three second-half goals, including a man-down goal, en route to a 4-0 win over Swarthmore in the Centennial Conference Quarterfinals Tuesday night at Homewood Field.
Hopkins improves to 10-4-4 overall and moves on to the conference semifinals. Swarthmore ends its season at 5-7-5.
Sophomore
Jackson Shapiro intercepted a pass just over midfield and then played a through ball that sprung graduate student
Ben Goodman. He ran on to the ball, eluded a Garnet defender and fired a shot from close range, but Swarthmore goalie Christian Bignotti deflected it away. The ball kicked out to a trailing Shapiro, who one timed it into the goal from 14 yards out in the eighth minute.
Junior
Ian Whamond opened the second-half scoring in the 57
th minute and put Hopkins on top 2-0. Graduate student
Griffin Meyer stepped in front of a Swarthmore pass right at midfield and the ball bounced right to the foot of Shapiro. He took one touch and then slotted a ball to Whamond. He carried the ball into the Garnet box and then fired a low shot to the bottom right corner to stake Hopkins to a 2-0 lead in the 57
th minute.
After going down a man due to a second yellow on Meyer, senior

th minute. Junior
Will Sangpachatanaruk drew a free kick 28 yards from goal and White buried a hard shot to the lower left corner.
Sophomore

nd minute. Sangpachatanaruk was taken down on a breakaway, drawing a red card for Shlok Kaul and a free kick for the Blue Jays 26 yards out. Coleman attempted to the pick the bottom left corner, but his shot rang off the post and out of danger.
Freshman
Christian Clarke put the finishing touches on the win in the 88
th minute with his first career goal. Shapiro sprung Coleman and Clarke on a two-on-none break at midfield. Coleman drew the goalie out at the top of the box and selflessly passed the ball to Clarke on his right, who calmly tapped the ball into the open goal.
Senior
Drew Valsamedis finished with four saves to earn his third shutout of the season. Bignotti also tallied four saves in the loss for the Garnet. Hopkins had a 14-12 advantage in shots while corners were even at five.
Hopkins will face either top-seeded Washington College or second-seeded Franklin & Marshall in Friday's semifinal. The Blue Jays' opponent will depend on the outcome of the other quarterfinal between Muhlenberg and Dickinson.

th time since the tournament's inception in 2001 • The Blue Jays' four goals are their second most in a CC Tournament game.
