Box Score LEWSIBURG, PA – Johns Hopkins fell to second-seeded Navy, 19-11, in the opening game of the 2023 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championships Friday afternoon.
The Midshipmen jumped out to a three-goal lead before sophomore
Gavin Brooke got the Blue Jays on the at the 5:51-mark. Navy answered with back-to-back goals to push out to a 5-1 lead midway through the quarter. Senior
Seth Berke got one back for Hopkins with a six-on-five goal, but a 7-0 run by the Mids pushed their lead to 12-2 with 5:40 to go in the second.
Hopkins fought back and made it a five-goal game at the half. Junior
Ian Raley halted Navy's run with a score at the 3:46-mark. That sparked a five-goal Blue Jay run, fueled by a pair of
Owen Bartlett goals, that made it a 12-7 game at the half.
Navy came out strong to start the third and used a 5-1 run to go up 17-8 early in the fourth quarter. The teams then traded goals over the final five minutes and the Mids took the 19-11 win.

Hopkins will now take on the loser of Wagner and George Washington at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
