NEW YORK, NY – Hopkins won two of its three matches on Saturday at the Columbia Invitational. Hopkins beat NJIT and Stevens but fell to host and third-ranked Columbia.
Hopkins opened the day with an 20-7 win over NJIT, sweeping all three weapons. The Sabre squad of
Victoria Li,
Josephine Chang and
Lauren Prieur grabbed a 9-0 win. The Foil squad earned a 5-4 win, led by
Czarina Alfonso's three wins, including the clinching win. The Epee squad won 6-3 with
Katelyn McShine winning all three of her bouts.
JHU then beat Stevens, 19-8, and again swept all three weapons.
Bethany Lee and
Julianna Wu combined for six wins to lead the Foil squad to an 8-1 win. Prieur won each of her three bouts to lead the Sabre squad to a 6-3 win. The Epee squad grabbed a 5-4 win. McShine and
Anika Kale won two bouts each and
Maya Zhang clinched the win in the final bout.
The Blue Jays ended the day with a 19-8 loss to the host Lions. Prieur earned the lone win for the Sabre squad in a tough 8-1 loss. The Foil squad earned a hard-fought 5-4 win. Lee won all three of her bouts and Wu clinched the win in the ninth bout. Kale and McShine then each won a bout in a 7-2 loss in the Epee.
Hopkins returns to action on December 9 at Haverford.
