LANCASTER, PA – Following a week in which the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team won its only game — a 66-63 victory over Gettysburg —
Michaela O'Neil was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week, as released this morning. The contest was a rematch of the last two Conference Championships, with the win serving as the Blue Jays' first over the Bullets in nearly two years.
O'Neil was instrumental in leading Hopkins to the three-point victory over rival Gettysburg, tallying a game-high 18 points on 50% shooting to pair with a team-best 10 rebounds. The double-double was the junior's first of the season and third of her career as she is now averaging 13.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest — both improvements on her totals from a season ago that saw her land on the All-Conference Second Team.
In the most tightly-contested game of the young season, O'Neil was a consistent presence on the offensive end — the junior scored eight points in the first half adding 10 more in the second — as well as the defensive end, registering a season-best two rejections in the win. This marks the third time in four games O'Neil has reached double figures in scoring, ranking 12
th in the Centennial in points per game and sixth in shooting percentage with a career-best .471.
O'Neil and the Blue Jays are back in action Tuesday, Nov. 28 to take on McDaniel in Centennial Conference action, with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
