BALTIMORE, MD – Host Loyola jumped out to a 6-2 halftime lead and then outscored visiting Johns Hopkins 5-0 to open the third quarter as the Greyhounds knocked off the Blue Jays, 13-8, at the Ridley Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds improve to 2-0 on the year, while the Blue Jays slip to 2-2.

Up four at the start of the second half, the Greyhounds got an extra-man goal from
Seth Higgins just under four minutes into the third quarter to jump-start the five-goal run that put the game away.Â
Max McGillicuddy added a slow transition goal two minutes after Higgins' tally and the 'Hounds added three goals in a four-minute span late in the period to push out to the 11-2 lead. A
Luke Murphy extra-man goal jump-started the late spurt, which included strikes from
Mustang Sally and
Evan James just 57 seconds apart.

The Blue Jays outscored the Greyhounds 6-2 over the final 16 minutes to account for the final scoring. A
Garrett Degnon goal with three seconds left in the third quarter ignited the game-ending run for the Blue Jays, who would outscore the Greyhounds 5-2 in the final 15 minutes.Â

Brendan Grimes and Degnon all scored their second goal of the game during the fourth period and
Hunter Jaronski and
Stuart Phillips also tallied for the Blue Jays, who fired 19 of their 38 shots in the game in the fourth quarter.

The Greyhounds had outscored Johns Hopkins 3-1 in both the first and second quarters to sprint out to the 6-2 lead. James and
Eric Pacheco scored back-to-back goals in a span of just seven seconds to stake the 'Hounds to a quick 2-0 lead before Minicus and Grimes traded goals late in the opening period.Â
Dylan Binney accounted for two of Loyola's three goals in the second quarter and Collison scored in the final two minutes to account for the 6-2 halftime score.
