Gettysburg Rallies Past Johns Hopkins, 66-54, in Goldfarb Gym

11-Game Blue Jay Winning Streak Halted

BALTIMORE, MD – The visiting Gettysburg women's basketball team used a 19-0 fourth-quarter run to turn a 51-45 deficit into a 64-51 lead with less than 90 seconds remaining as the Bullets rallied for a 66-54 win over host Johns Hopkins Thursday night in Goldfarb Gym.  The win improves the Bullets' record to 15-6 overall and 12-4 in the Centennial Conference, while the Blue Jays had their 11-game winning streak snapped and slip to 17-5 overall and 14-3 in the Centennial.

The Blue Jays had the 51-45 lead just over 30 seconds into the fourth quarter after a Jadyn Murray layup.  A three-pointer from AB Holsinger 65 seconds later jump-started the game-turning 19-point run for the Bullets, who would hold the Blue Jays scoreless for more than eight minutes to grab control.  Holsinger scored the first seven points during the spree while Emily Violante (6 points), Mackenzie Szlosek (4) and Shinya Lee (2) combined for the other 12 points as the Bullets pulled away.

An electric first quarter saw the Blue jump out to an 8-1 lead in the first three minutes before the Bullets rallied to pull even at 10 in a quarter than eventually ended with Hopkins leading 19-17.  The Blue Jays got six points from Greta Miller and hit 9-of-10 from the free throw line as they attacked the basket early and often.

The Blue Jays used a quick 8-0 run to open the second quarter to build a 27-17 lead with 6:40 remaining the period.  A turnround jumper in the lane from graduate student Olivia Parisi ignited the spurt, which Zoe Soule capped with a jumper of her own.

The Bullets trimmed the deficit to 32-26 on a Szlosek three-pointer with just over three minutes remaining before halftime, but buckets from Kendall Dunham and Murray down the stretch helped push the lead to 36-26 at the half.

Although the Blue Jays never relinquished the lead in the third quarter, tbe Bullets found their rhythm as they scored the first five points of the period to make it 36-31 at the 8:07 mark.  The teams traded baskets with the Blue Jays maintaining a four-to-six point lead over the next seven minutes before a Szlosek layup pulled Gettysburg within two at 47-45 with 36 seconds on the third-quarter clock.  A Kara Milliken jumper at the buzzer gave Hopkins a 49-45 lead entering the final period and Murray's layup early in the fourth made it 51-45 before Holsinger's triple ignited the 19-point Bullet run that sealed the win.

In addition to having their 11-game winning streak snapped, the Blue Jays also had their 18-game regular season home winning streak halted with the loss.
