HARRISONBURG, VA – Host and eighth-ranked James Madison outscored 23
rd-ranked Johns Hopkins, 7-0, in the fourth quarter to beat the Blue Jays, 17-10, Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays fall to 3-4 on the season while the Dukes improve to 7-1.
Hopkins scored three goals in just a 50-second span to jump out to a 3-0 lead on JMU. Freshman
Ava Angello opened the scoring when she scored in-tight at the 11:57-mark. The Blue Jays won the ensuing draw and quickly made it a two-goal game when Angello found senior
Maeve Barker for the score. Hopkins completed the three-goal spree with a rocket of a shot from junior
Campbell Case just 19 seconds later.
James Madison got on the board with a pair of free position goals from Katelyn Morgan and Tai Jankowski to make it a 3-2 game at 7:54. Just 23 seconds later, Angello scored on a shovel shot off a feed from junior
Georgie Gorelick and it was 4-2 Blue Jays. Brianna Mennella pulled the Dukes back within one with 6:55 to go in the quarter. Junior
Abbey Hurlbrink converted an eight-meter shot to push the lead back to two. Junior
Jordan Carr made it a three-goal game with 1:45 on the clock when she scored over the shoulder of her defender. Isabella Peterson would have the final say of the half as the Dukes scored in transition with just one second left in the quarter to make it 6-4.
Peterson scored three straight in the second to give JMU its first lead at 6:11. Hopkins tied it up when Gorelick found senior
Madison McPherson opened on the doorstep at 2:23 and the teams would go into the half tied at 7-7. Junior
Eliza Bowman put Hopkins back on top with a rip past Kat Buchanan just 25 seconds into the third. The Blue Jays then capitalized after a
Maggie Tydings' save when Carr finished on the other end to put Hopkins up 9-7 with 12:31 to play.
Peterson and Hurlbrink then traded goals and it was 10-8 Blue Jays midway through the quarter. Savannah Derey and Peterson scored back-to-back goals just 69 seconds apart to tie the game at 10 and that's had the quarter would end. The Dukes took control early in the fourth, scoring three goals in the opening three-and-a-half minutes. JMU would add four more in the seven minutes and 20 seconds to take the win.
Angello led the Blue Jays with four points (2g, 2a) and Gorelick added a career-high three assists. Barker (1g, 1a), Hurlbrink (2g) and Carr (2g) also had multi-point games. Sophomore

Peterson finished with seven goals and eight points to lead the Dukes. Jankowski tallied seven points (3g, 4a) and Morgan added five (1g, 4a).
Hopkins wraps up its five-game road swing on Saturday, March 18 as the Blue Jays visit the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Big Ten opener is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.
