How It Happened

  • The Blue Jays continued their habit of jumping on teams in the early innings in this game, jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the first three innings. This modeled the 7-0 lead JHU took in the first four innings against Swarthmore on Tuesday.
  • Isaiah Winikur and Alex Shane started things off with back to back singles to right field in the top of the first. A double play with the bases loaded, followed up by an RBI base hit from Shawn Steuerer put a crocked number up in the first for JHU to take a 2-0 lead.
  • The hits kept coming in the next inning with Winikur picking up an RBI knock as well as Dillon Souvignier who drove in two runs. Jimmy Stevens scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third to kick off the scoring in that inning. Winikur picked up his second RBI of the day on a HBP with the bases loaded and Shane followed with a sacrifice fly to left field to take a commanding 9-0 lead.
  • Kieren Collins put together another quality start to earn his third win of the season. Collins hurled six innings while only allowing one run and punching out three batters. Over his last 16 innings pitched, Collins has only allowed one run and has stuck out 14.
  • The hits sparked up once again in the sixth inning with Cooper and Sam Frank ripping RBI doubles to continue to add to the Blue Jays run total. Souvignier added on a sacrifice fly to get JHU's run total to a dozen.
  • The Blue Jays started to empty the bench in the seventh and got contributions off the bench from Tripp Myers and Lukas Gear who both drove in runs on RBI hits.
  • Cole Jefferson, Jack McRae, Nic Jos and Ben Keever held things down out of the bullpen for the final three innings to help the Jays lock down their 26th win of the season, 16-3 over the Garnet.

Inside the Box Score

  • The top of the order for Johns Hopkins set the table well throughout the game, hitting a combined 8-for-10 with five RBI's. Winikur and Cooper both picked up two RBI's and they are the top two on the team in that category with 31 and 30 RBI respectively.
  • The Blue Jays put up 34 runs in two games against the Garnet which ties for the most runs scored against a conference opponent this year. The Jays also scored 34 against Washington College. The Blue Jays rank in the top 15 in the country in runs scored with 280.
  • Eight different Johns Hopkins hitters picked up at least one RBI in the victory today.
