Blue Jays Blank Shoremen Once Again to Move to 22-2

Collins Fires Seven Scoreless to Earn Second Win

  • Score: #4 Johns Hopkins- 9, Washington College- 0
  • Records: JHU (22-2), WC: (10-15)
  • Pitching Decision: W: Kieren Collins (2-0), L: Alex Martin (1-1)
  • The Short Story: Another stellar pitching performance from the Johns Hopkins staff, lead by seven scoreless from Kieren Collins led the team to back-to-back shutout wins over the Shormen to earn win number 22 on the season.

How It Happened

  • Matthew Cooper picked up where the Blue Jays offense left off last time out, belting a no-doubter over the left field fence in the bottom of the first. It was his team leading ninth homer of the season to get JHU an early 1-0 advantage. Another run would be tacked on in the next inning when Dylan Whitney roped a two-out RBI double down the left field line to double the Blue Jays lead.
  • Back-to-back sac flies occurred in the fourth to make it a 4-0 advantage. Isaiah Winikur picked up the first one for his team leading 26th RBI this season. Cooper followed with one of his own which give him his eighth multi-RBI game of the year.
  • A three run fifth inning moved the Blue Jays out to comfortable seven run lead. Whitney came through with a clutch hit again, poking a two RBI base-hit to right field which became the third time this year Whitney has had three or more RBI.
  • Kieren Collins put together his best start of the season, hurling seven shutout innings, while only allowing three hits. Collins fanned seven batters and it was the most shutout innings he has pitched so far this season. After allowing the first two runners to reach in the seventh, Collins set down the next three Shoremen to finish off his outing.
  • The Blue Jays added two more runs in the later innings and Cole Jefferson, William Boneno and Jack McRae picked up the final six outs to close out a 9-0 win for JHU.

Inside the Box Score

  • Matthew Cooper's homer was the 21st he has hit so far in his career as a Blue Jay. That ties him for ninth all-time with Ryan Orgielwicz (2014-17) and Chris Festa (2017-20) on the career home run list.
  • Johns Hopkins has now pitched 18 consecutive shutout innings over two games against the Shoremen. In those innings, the team has only allowed five hits to bring their team ERA to 3.08, which is in the top three in the NCAA.
  • The Blue Jays win streak now sits at 10 games, which is the longest streak that they have put together so far this season.
