BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team placed five players on the 2023 USILA Scholar All-America Team it was recently announced. The five selections are the most in program history and were one shy of the national lead. Two teams produced six Scholar All-Americans and Johns Hopkins was one of five programs that had five players named to the team.
To be named to the USILA Scholar All-America Team, players must be nominated by their coach and be a student with a senior year or graduate student academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player. Ultimately, final selections are made by the Scholar All-America Committee.
Johns Hopkins' five selections include graduate student

Beaudan Szuluk (D).
Mazzone capped his career with Second Team All-America selections from the USILA and
Lacrosse Magazine and a third team nod from
Inside Lacrosse. He is currently completing his master's degree in global securities studies at Johns Hopkins' Carey Business. Mazzone started all 18 games on close defense for the Blue Jays in the recently-completed 2023 season and totaled two goals, two assists, a team-high 77 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers. His 77 ground balls are the most by non-faceoff specialist at Johns Hopkins since 2008.
Angelus majored in economics as an undergraduate and will return to Homewood in 2024 as a graduate student. He led the Blue Jays in scoring in 2023 with 17 goals and a team-high 44 assists for 61 points. His 44 assists are tied for the fourth-highest single-season total in school history, while he pushed his career totals to 51 goals and 81 assists for 132 points. His 81 assists rank 13
th in program history.
Marcille, who adds Scholar All-America honors to his three career Academic All-Big Ten selections, recently graduated with a degree in natural sciences. He started 17 games in goal for the Blue Jays in 2023 and posted an 11.25 goals against average and a .499 save percentage. His capped his career with a 10.98 career goals against average and a .512 save percentage. Marcille's 970:22 played in goal in 2023 ranks as the fifth-best total in program history.
Narewski graduated with a degree in economics and recently became just the third player in program history to earn Academic All-Big Ten honors four times (Cole Williams /
Kyle Prouty). After missing the first six games of the 2023 season, Narewski returned and played in 11 of the final 12 and had one goal, two assists and 31 ground balls to his credit while winning 71-of-141 (.504) faceoffs on the year. In his career, he finished 423-of-808 (.524) at the X with 235 ground balls. He ranks seventh in school history in career faceoffs won and sixth in faceoff attempts.
Szuluk adds yet another academic honor to his impressive resume from 2023 as he previously earned Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors. An economics major and co-captain, Szuluk played in 14 games with 13 starts on close defense this season and totaled 19 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers to his credit. He has started 29 of the 42 games he's played in during his career and has accumulated 54 ground balls and 48 caused turnovers. Szuluk ranks third in school history with his 48 career caused turnovers.
