BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's cross country team made a statement at the Baltimore Metro Meet Friday night, claiming nine of the top 10 spots and 13 of the top 15 en route to a first-place team finish. The Jays finished well above the competition ending the meet with just 15 points, with Loyola Maryland representing the next closest program at 53 points.
Emmanuel Leblond and
Gavin McElhennon were side-by-side for the entirety of Friday's 5K, finishing first and second in the race with times of 15:22.38 and 15:23.20 respectively.
Charles Teeter hung with the duo through three kilometers and completed the podium with a third-place finish, crossing the line at 15:29.46 before
Bryce Thalheimer and Tommy Li rounded out the top 5 with times of 15:34.09 and 15:35.38 respectively.
The final point-scorers for the Jays were sophomores
Matthew Kelly and
Rowan Cassidy, who crossed the line at the 15:38.22 and 15:38.69 to complete the perfect afternoon for the team. Also earning a top-10 finish but not qualifying for the points were
Connor Oiler (15:44.58) and
Jonas Larson (15:45.05), with
Lance Nicholls,
Sean Enright,
Brandon Chang — who climbed ten places in the final two kilometers to finish as the highest-placing freshman in the entire meet — and
Adrian Archer claiming top-15 finishes.
Hopkins' 15 total points earned them a comfortable first place finish, while Loyola (Md.) finished second with 53 points and McDaniel and Stevenson tied for third at 120 points each.
The Jays return to action Friday, Sept. 15 to take part in the Paddy Doyle Meet of Champions, with festivities set to begin at 10 a.m.
