EWING, NJ – In a game fitting of a matchup of two teams ranked in the top 25 in the nation, the fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team got a pair of
Katie Sullivan goals and a career-high six saves from freshman goalie
Eva Breiland as the Blue Jays battled to a 2-2 tie with 25
th TCNJ Wednesday evening at Lions Staduim.
Â
The Lions opened the scoring in the 11
th minute as they capitalized on a corner kick.Â
Emma Pascarella's offering floated to the back half of the box, where
Ava Curtis headed it back to the middle and
Lindsay O'Keefe headed it home from there to break the ice.
Â
The one-goal Lion lead held for just over 16 minutes and then was gone in a span of just 80 seconds courtesy of back-to-back Sullivan strikes. Off a set piece at the 26:36 mark from 23 yards out, Sullivan picked the far corner to pull the Blue Jays even. Just 80 ticks later, Sullivan collected a feed from
Ella Macko in transition, turned to the middle and rifled one from 30 yards out that TCNJ goalie
Corinne Byrum got a hand on, but couldn't keep out as the Blue Jays grabbed a 2-1 lead.
Â
Johns Hopkins (3-1-1) carried the 2-1 lead into the second half before the Lions scored in the 52
nd minute to make it a 2-2 game. TCNJ's
Rachel Burkhard took the corner and bent it in over the outstretched hands Breiland.
Â
The Lions would take eight of the 13 second-half shots and five of the eight corners, but it was Sullivan who had the best chance to win it late as she floated one from the wing toward the top of goal, but Byrum got a hand on it and punched it away in the final 20 seconds to preserve the tie.
Â
Sullivan's two goals boost her career total to 32, which ties her with Kerri Cathcart (1993-96) for 10
th place on Johns Hopkins' career goal-scoring list, while she also pushed her career point-scoring total to 83, which ties her with Sydney Teng (2011-14) for seventh on the career points list.
