Johns Hopkins Grabs Three Wins at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, VA – The Johns Hopkins men's swim team earned three first-place finishes and a total of 17 top three swims in a tough 169-93 loss to host William & Mary Saturday afternoon. Senior Eric Ji, junior Bryce Lloyd and freshman Larkin Helman each earned wins for the Blue Jays.
 
Hopkins kicked off the meet with third and fourth place finishes in the 200 Medley Relay. Lloyd, freshman Jonathan Wang and juniors Avery Clapp and Christian Mayr swam a 1:34.09 to finish just 0.14 seconds out of second. Freshman Aden Li, senior Joe Castagno and sophomores Rad Couture and Adam Sandid finished in fourth with a time of 1:34.76.
 
Freshman Jack Cornish then took second place in the 1000 Free as he clocked in a 9:52.68, a season best. Helman followed with a second-place finish in the 200 Free with a season-best swim of 1:42.94. Ji took third place in 1:44.12. Li and Lloyd then went two-three in the 100 Back as Li finished in 50.57 and Lloyd touched in 51.37.
 
Castagno finished in third place in the 100 Breast with a time of 59.30 and graduate student Julian Maycock took fourth in 1:00.66. Couture swam to a third-place finish in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:57.03. Wang followed with a second-place swim in the 50 Free as he clocked in at 21.29, just eight-hundredths of a second out of first. Mayr led the Blue Jays with a fourth-place finish in the 100 Free in 48.27.
 
Lloyd then earned the first of the Blue Jays' wins as he swam a 1:52.15 to win the 200 Back by nearly 2.5 seconds. Ji followed with a win in the 200 Breast as he touched in 2:06.22. Castagno finished in second place with a time of 2:09.72. Freshman Josiah March swam a season-best 4:46.80 to finish in third place in the 500 Free. Li then finished in second place in the 100 Fly with a season-best swim of 51.08.
 
Helman made it three wins for Hopkins as he beat the field in the 200 IM. He clocked in with a time of 1:52.78 to win by more than 2.3 seconds. Ji finished in third place with a swim of 1:55.50. JHU finished the day with a second and fourth place finish in the 200 Free Relay. Wang, Clapp, Sandid and Mayr combined for a swim of 1:25.02 to take second by 0.18 seconds. Senior Jonik Surprenant, March, Helman and Ji finished in 1:30.04 for fourth place.
 
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, November 9 at Georgetown. The meet is scheduled for an 11:00 am start at McCarthy Pool.
