William & Mary Tops Johns Hopkins

WILLIAMSBURG, VA – The Johns Hopkins women's swim team grabbed seven top three finishes, including a first-place swim, against host William & Mary Saturday afternoon. The Tribe earned a 203.5-58.5 win over the Blue Jays.
 
Hopkins opened the day with a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Freshman Jaya Veerapaneni, senior Michelle Liu, freshman Kennedy Lee and sophomore Elizabeth Cohen swam a 1:46.82. Sophomore Ayden Min then led the Blue Jays with a fourth-place finish in the 1000 Free with a career-best time of 10:57.57. Freshman Sarah Fox finished in a season-best 1:59.78 to take fifth place in the 200 Free.
 
Veerapaneni then grabbed a third-place finish in the 100 Back with a season-best swim of 57.75. Lee followed in fourth place with a time of 58.68. Junior Katherine Chelus led JHU with a fifth-place finish in the 100 Breast as she clocked in at 1:08.41. Junior Rachel Davis was the top Blue Jay in the 200 Fly as she finished in 2:14.14 for fifth place.
 
Cohen then finished in a tie for first in the 50 Free as she touched in 24.42. Liu followed closely in third place with a swim of 24.56. Cohen followed that with a third-place finish in the 100 Free (53.08). Veerapaneni grabbed second place in the 200 Back in 2:06.90, while Fox finished in fourth place (2:08.69). Both times were season-bests for the Veerapaneni and Fox. Davis led JHU in the 200 Breast with a fourth-place finish and a swim of 2:30.06.
 
Sophomore Julia Tuinman finished in fifth place in the 500 Free with a swim of 5:23.69. Lee then led the Blue Jays in the 100 Fly with a third-place finish and a time of 59.73. Sophomore Kate Petitt finished in a close fourth with a time of 59.91. Graduate student Nyah Stahl placed fourth in the 200 IM as she touched in 2:14.02, just edging Davis by six-hundredths of a second.
 
The Blue Jays closed out the day with second and fourth-place finishes in the 200 Free Relay. The team of Veerapaneni, Cohen, sophomore Kimberly Lan and Liu finished in 1:36.35 for second. Lee, Tuinman, freshman Anna Miler and junior Alia Basler took fourth place in 1:40.29.
 
Hopkins returns to the pool on Saturday, November 9 as the Blue Jays travel to Washington, DC to take on George Washington. The meet is scheduled for an 11:00 am start at McCarthy Pool.
