LANCASTER, PA – For the second time this season, Johns Hopkins cross country's
Emmanuel Leblond and
Carter Brotherton have been named the Centennial Conference's Cross Country Athletes of the Week, as released by the conference this morning. This is Leblond's third time earning the honor this season and the second recognition for Brotherton as the two continue to lead the Blue Jays halfway through their seasons.
Leblond put together one of the strongest races of his collegiate career at this past weekend's Paul Short Invitational, finishing nearly 30 seconds in front of the next closest Division III competitor en route to a 28
th-place finish in the Gold 8K. The junior crossed the line in 24:04.0 — the fastest time by a Blue Jay this season — climbing five spots in the final 1.7 kilometers to help lead Hopkins to a 16
th-place team finish in front of DIII foes RPI and Carnegie Mellon as well as a number of top Division I programs.
Brotherton was equally impressive in just her third race as a Blue Jay, finishing 57
th in the Gold 6K to pace all Hopkins runners en route to a 23
rd-place team finish. The freshman jumped 16 spots from the two-mile marker to the finish line to cross with a time of 21:03.1 — a new season-best — and help beat team beat out Division I Maryland in a field of 42 teams and over 350 competitors.
