NEWVILLE, PA –
Emmanuel Leblond claimed his second title in as many seasons to help lead the Johns Hopkins men's cross country team to victory at the Centennial Conference Championships Saturday afternoon. This is the Blue Jays' third consecutive title — Hopkins joins Haverford as the only other program in conference history to win three straight championships — with their 19 points serving as the second-lowest total since 2011 to only Hopkins' mark of 15 set in 2019.
Leblond led for all but the first mile en route to becoming just the sixth runner in Centennial Conference history and first in Hopkins history to win the championship more than once. The junior was level with Haverford's Peter LaRochelle at one mile, building his lead at every ensuing split following before crossing the line 25 seconds in front with a final time of 24:41.8 — the fastest time run by a Hopkins athlete at the Conference Championship in program history.
Haverford's LaRochelle was next to finish before five straight Blue Jays crossed the line en route to the near sweep.
Rowan Cassidy was first with a time of 25:29.5 before
Brady Ott (4
th / 25:37.9) and
Lucas Rackers (5
th / 25:39.1) finished within two seconds of each other to round out the meet's top five runners.
Next to cross the line was
Kenny Wanlass, who ran the final 1.2 miles in just 6:20 to pass a pair of competitors and finish in sixth with a time of 25:42.7 before
Connor Oiler completed the top 10 finishers by crossing the line in seventh with his time of 25:45.9.
Also earning top-20 finishes in a field of over 100 competitors were
Olaf Dietz (11
th / 26:03.1),
Andrew Myers (13
th / 26:05.8),
Nash Minor (14
th / 26:09.0) and
Sean Enright (18
th / 26:22.4) in an all-around impressive showing for Hopkins.
The Blue Jays won the meet with 19 points, with the Fords (66) and Dickinson (70) completing the podium.
Next up for Hopkins is the ECAC Division III Championships Friday, Nov. 8, with races set to begin at 4 p.m.
