Johns Hopkins Splits with NYU and TCNJ

EWING, NJ – Johns Hopkins split a double dual meet at TCNJ Saturday afternoon as the Blue Jays beat the host Lions (161-132) but fell to the NYU Violets, 157-104. Hopkins earned three NCAA B qualifying times on the afternoon.
 
Hopkins kicked off the day with a first-place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. The team of Bryce Lloyd, Eric Ji, Avery Clapp and Jay Heymann finished in 3:18.41. Jack Cornish then took fourth overall in the 1000 Free as he finished in 9:43.18.
 
In the 200 Free, the Blue Jays finished second through fourth overall, led by Larkin Helman with a time of 1:40.76. Daniel Byrnes finished in 1:41.73 for third and Josiah March followed closely in fourth (1:42.00). Lloyd then took first overall in the 100 Back as he clocked in at 50.03. Dylan Jewett finished in fourth place with a time of 50.72.
 
Jonathan Wang and Eric Ji went three-four in the 100 Breast as Wang touched in 56.25, followed by Ji in 56.80. Clapp picked up the first of the Blue Jays' qualifying times in the 200 Fly. He touched in 1:49.35 to finish first overall, while Aden Li placed third in 1:52.72. Heymann led the Blue Jays in the 50 Free with a fifth-place finish in 21.41. Heymann followed that with a swim of 45.95 in the 100 Free, edging out NYU's Kevin Wu by just one-hundredth of a second for second place.
 
Lloyd then earned another win and another NCAA B time for the Blue Jays. He won the 200 Back in 1:48.95, by just four-hundredths of a second over TCNJ's Ryan Higgins. March then placed fifth overall with a swim of 1:50.76. Joe Castagno took second in the 200 Breast as he touched in 2:00.80, an NCAA B time. Ji took fifth overall as he finished in 2:02.87.
 
Helman placed second overall in the 500 Free with a swim of 4:33.38. Clapp then did the same in the 100 Fly as he finished in 49.20 while Li placed fourth with a time of 50.30. In the final individual event of the day, Matthew Hartshorn led JHU with a second-place finish and a time of 1:52.46. Castagno finished in fourth place with a swim of 1:52.74.
 
Hopkins closed out the weekend with a second-place finish in the 200 Free Relay. Wang, Clapp, Christian Mayr and Heymann combined for a time of 1:23.60.
 
Hopkins returns to the pool on Saturday, January 11 at Washington & Lee.
