Box Score ALLENTOWN, PA – The 12
th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team scored twice in each half and outshot host Muhlenberg 38-0 as the Blue Jays cruised to a 4-0 win over the Mules in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams at Varsity Field Saturday afternoon.
Â
The win improves the Blue Jays' record to 3-1-3 and extends their unbeaten streak to six straight, while the Mules drop their second straight and slip to 1-7 on the year.
Â
Johns Hopkins got all the offense it would need in a four-minute span early in the game as they scored twice before the game was 13 minutes old.
Â
Junior
Megha Salvi got the Blue Jays on the board at the 9:01 mark as she took a perfect feed in the middle of the box from
Katie Sullivan and she poked one just under the crossbar from seven yards out to give the Jays the early lead.
Â
Just under four minutes later, it was Sullivan again triggering things as she crossed one through the box to
Maria Romo-Nichols, who quickly centered it to
Carrie McIntire in front and McIntire slotted it home to double the lead.
Â
Despite heavy pressure from the Blue Jays, the score held at 2-0 until the 59
th minute, when Sullivan bent home a corner kick to push the lead to 3-0. Just over 24 minutes later it was
Katia Chiampas closing out the scoring as she weaved her way around a defender to the outside of the box and fired one inside the far past to account for the 4-0 final score.
Â
The 38 shots are a season-high and the most for the Blue Jays since November 12, 2022, when JHU fired 43 shots against Lesley in a 6-0 win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. This was also the first time Johns Hopkins has held a team without a shot since October 4, 2023, when the Jays topped Washington College 3-0 and held a 25-0 advantage in shots.
Â
Johns Hopkins will return to action on Wednesday, September 25 when the Blue Jays travel to Dickinson (7 pm) for another Centennial Conference game.
