BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins won all 14 events as the Blue Jays beat the visiting Gettysburg Bullets Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Jays won 209-53 to improve to 27-0 all-time against the Bullets.
The day began with first and second place finishes in the 200 Medley Relay.
Aden Li,
Jonathan Wang,
Avery Clapp and
Christian Mayr earned the win as they finished in 1:30.56.
Bryce Lloyd,
Joe Castagno,
Rad Couture and
Jay Heymann took second in 1:33.84.
In the first individual event of the afternoon,
Jack Cornish and
Larkin Helman went one-two in the 1000 Free. Cornish took the win in 9:36.99, while Helman touched in 9:46.38.
Daniel Byrnes and Clapp did the same in the 200 Free, with Byrnes clocking in at 1:42.06 and Clapp finishing just 0.20 seconds after. Lloyd and
Dylan Jewett made it three in a row in the 100 Back. Lloyd led the way with a swim of 50.46 and Jewett finished in 50.89 for second.
Mitchell List led a Blue Jay sweep in the 100 Breast with a time of 58.75.
Eric Ji finished in second (59.01) and Li took third (59.57). Hopkins turned the same trick in the 200 Fly, led by
Jonik Surprenant and his swim of 1:54.39. Castagno touched in 1:55.97 for second, followed by
Julian Maycock in 1:57.54.
Adam Sandid then beat the field in the 50 Free, winning by more than four-tenths of a second in 21.41. Heymann edged out Couture by one-hundredth of a second (21.94) for third place.
Heymann then led a sweep of the 100 Free as he touched the wall in 46.69.
Christian Mayr grabbed second (47.23) and
Jonathan Wang took third (47.91). Li swam an impressive 26.28 last lap to come from behind to win the 200 Back in 1:51.87. Helman finished in third place with a swim of 1:56.55. JHU then swept the top three spots in the 200 Breast and 500 Free. Ji swam a 2:05.72 to win the 200 Breast, followed by List (2:10.18) and
Matthew Hartshorn (2:10.25).
Josiah March earned the win in the 500 as he clocked in at 4:38.63, with Byrnes placing second (4:45.02) and Cornish third (4:50.71).
Clapp followed with a win in the 100 Fly with a swim of 49.68, while Lloyd took second in 51.31. The Jays then earned another sweep in the 200 IM, the final individual event. Wang led the way as he finished in 1:50.53, swimming a 26.03 in the final lap. Maycock finished in second (1:51.51) and Jewett took third (1:55.51).
Hopkins ended the day with first and third place finishes in the 400 Free Relay. Byrnes, Couture, Li and
Andrew Gilbert claimed the win in 3:11.88.
Will Dunlap, Ji, Surprenant and March took third place with a time of 3:12.49, just two-hundredths of a second out of second place.
