BALTIMORE, MD – Junior
Macie Feldman recorded the third triple-double in program history with 15 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists to power the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team to a 79-42 victory over Franklin & Marshall Saturday afternoon inside Goldfarb Gym. The win improves the Blue Jays' record to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in the Centennial Conference, while the Diplomats slips to 11-6 overall and 2-4 in the Centennial.
Â
Feldman's triple-double is the first for a Johns Hopkins player since
Lexie Scholtz punched one up against Bryn Mawr (12-10-10) on January 12, 2017.Â
Leslie Ritter recorded the first triple-double in program history on January 22, 2000 against McDaniel (12-10-13). The triple-double is also the 15
th in Centennial Conference history.
Â
In a game the Blue Jays led for just a tick under 37 minutes, the lead was 18-5 after the first quarter and 26-8 with just under seven minutes remaining in the second quarter after a
Greta Miller layup. Miller's bucket capped a 21-3 Blue Jay run that Miller paced with six points; seven different Blue Jays scored during the run for Johns Hopkins, which held the Diplomats to just 1-of-14 (.071) shooting during the spree, which lasted just under 11 minutes between the first and second quarters.
Â
F&M had the 18-point deficit down to eight at 30-22 as the Diplomats answered the Blue Jay run with a 14-4 spurt of their own.Â
Kennedy Wilburn ignited the spree with a layup at the 5:41 mark of the second quarter and she and
Kayla McCrea combined for nine of F&M's 14 points during the surge.
Â
Johns Hopkins would lead 36-26 at the half and the lead was still just nine (43-34) as the clock dripped under the five-minute mark in the third quarter before a short Miller jumper sparked a 13-4 Blue Jay spurt that extended the lead to 56-38 at the end of the period. Feldman fueled her triple double by scoring seven of her 15 points during the run. The Blue Jays turned up the defense during the quarter-ending spree as they forced four F&M turnovers that led directly to points and held the Diplomats to just one field goal in the final six minutes of the third period.
Â
The Blue Jays closed out the victory by outscoring the Diplomats 23-4 in the final 10 minutes. Johns Hopkins got 10 fourth-quarter points from
Grace Soltes, who locked up Feldman's triple-double by draining a three-pointer from the top of the key with 3:19 remaining off a fed from Feldman. The Blue Jay defense held the Diplomats without a field goal in the final quarter (0-for-9) and F&M had eight turnovers during that time.
Â
Feldman and Miller tied for the team-lead with 15 points while Soltes (13) and
Layla Henderson (10) also reached double figures. Feldman's 12 rebounds and 10 assists were both game highs with her 10 helpers also a career best. Miller also played in her 100
th career game today.
Â
Johns Hopkins turned 18 F&M turnovers into 30 points, held a 30-9 advantage in bench scoring and out-rebounded the Diplomats 47-26 in the victory.
Â
F&M got 10 points apiece from
Ally Trebelev and
Lizzie Neville and Wilburn narrowly missed a double-double as she punched up nine points and nine rebounds to go along with three steals in the loss.
Â
This was the third straight that saw Johns Hopkins hold the opposition to 42 points or less and the ninth consecutive time the Blue Jays have held the opposition to 54 points or less. This is the longest such streak for Johns Hopkins since midway through the 2022-23 season, when the Blue Jays held 11 consecutive opponents under 55 points.
Â
Johns Hopkins will return to action on Wednesday, January 22 when the Blue Jays welcome McDaniel to Goldfarb Gym (6 pm). The game will be the first of a men's-women's doubleheader between Johns Hopkins and McDaniel.
