Johns Hopkins Blanks Undefeated Muhlenberg, 1-0

BALTIMORE, MD – Connor Wilkes scored what turned out to be the game's only goal in the fifth minute as Johns Hopkins handed Muhlenberg its first loss of the season, 1-0. The Blue Jays improve to 5-6-6 overall and pick up a big three points in the Centennial Conference standings (3-2-3). The Mules slip to 8-1-8 on the season and 3-1-4 in the conference.

Muhlenberg had two great chances in the game's first four minutes to get on the board. Trevor Mikuta headed a ball off a corner kick that seemed destined to go inside the left post, but it was headed away by Jackson Shapiro. Just 84 seconds later, John Ghanem made a kick-save on Brady Sutton in tight to keep the game scoreless.

Hopkins responded just 4:25 into the game with Wilkes' game-winner. Wilkes headed a long clearing pass from Rishi Pathak to Brendan Listzwan just over midfield. With his back to his defender, Listzwan flicked the ball forward, springing Wilkes in transition. Wilkes took just two touches before slotting a low shot under a charging Ben Mulford to the back post.

The Blue Jay defense held the Mules to just two shots on goal for the final 85 minutes. This is the first regular season win in the series for either team since Hopkins beat Muhlenberg, 2-0, on October 23, 2021. The last three regular season meetings have ended in ties.

Ghanem finished with three saves to earn his third shutout of the season. Mulford finished with a pair of saves in the loss.

Hopkins returns to action on Friday, October 31 at Ursinus in both teams' regular season finale. The Centennial Conference game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
