Ninth-Ranked Blue Jays Defeat Dickinson, 3-0

Hopkins Holds Red Devils to .161 Hitting Percentage; Improves to 15-3

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Dickinson on Wednesday evening at Goldfarb Gymnasium, winning in straight sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-16). With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 15-3 on the season and extend their winning streak against the Red Devils to six consecutive matches.

The match started with an early deficit for Hopkins, as Dickinson surged to a 6-2 lead in the first set. However, the Blue Jays quickly regained their composure and evened the score at 7-7, thanks to kills from Simone Adam and Alice Yu. The teams traded points for much of the set, with neither side able to pull ahead by more than three points. At 13-13, the Blue Jays found their rhythm, as Adam's two kills sparked a 4-0 run, giving Hopkins a 17-13 advantage. Dickinson closed the gap to 20-22, but a critical service ace from Anna Pantano, combined with a kill from Celine Ebert, propelled Hopkins to a 25-20 set win and a 1-0 match lead.

The second set mirrored the first, with both teams exchanging points in a tight, competitive battle. Neither squad led by more than three points until Helena Swaak's kill gave the Blue Jays a 9-6 edge. Despite a late push by the Red Devils, who took a 23-20 lead, Hopkins refused to back down. The Blue Jays rallied with a five-point run, fueled by kills from Ebert and Jocelyn Pye, as well as a Pye service ace. With the score at 25-23, Hopkins seized the set and took a 2-0 match lead.

In the third set, Hopkins dominated from the outset, jumping to a 4-1 lead behind kills from Adam, Ebert and Pantano. The Blue Jays continued to control the tempo, extending their advantage to 13-5 with strong net play from Yu, Pantano and Swaak. After a brief exchange of points, Swaak closed out the match with a kill, bringing the score to 24-16. A Dickinson error on the ensuing rally handed Hopkins a 25-16 set win and sealed the 3-0 sweep.

Defensively, Swaak anchored the Blue Jays with 13 digs, while also contributing three blocks. Yu joined the blocking effort, adding three of her own. Offensively, Adam led the charge with a match-high 12 kills, hitting a stellar .500 for the match.

The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, October 11, when they travel to Collegeville, PA, to take on Ursinus at 12:00 PM at Helfferich Hall.
