BALTIMORE, MD – The eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's basketball team picked up its third win of the season (3-0) in dominant fashion Tuesday evening, dismantling Trinity (DC), 102-25, inside Goldfarb Gymnasium. The Blue Jays' performance not only secured the victory but also rewrote the program record book.
Hopkins' 77-point margin of victory marks the largest in program history, surpassing the previous record of 74 set in 2001 with an 86-12 win over Bryn Mawr. The Blue Jays' 102 points pushed their season total to 267 through just three games—the most in program history over that span, eclipsing the 256-point mark set during the 1997-98 season. The team's 31 assists also tied the program record, first achieved against Dickinson in 1990.
The Blue Jays' defense was relentless, holding the Tigers to just five points in each of the final three quarters.
After Trinity briefly tied the game at 3-3 on a
Kelsi Williams three-pointer, Hopkins took full control. A late first-quarter surge, capped by a fast-break layup from
Faith Williamson, gave the Blue Jays a 19-point cushion to close the opening frame.
Hopkins dominated the second quarter, opening with a 19-point run and burying a series of three-pointers from
Grace Soltes,
Stephanie Theodossakos and
Quinn O'Donnell to stretch the lead to 50-10. The Blue Jays entered halftime up 54-15.
The onslaught continued after the break. Hopkins again held Trinity to just five points in the third quarter while extending the lead to 85-20. By the end of the period, all 15 Blue Jays had scored at least two points.
In the final frame, Hopkins maintained its defensive stranglehold, limiting Trinity to five points for the third straight quarter and closing out the record-setting 102-25 win.
Soltes and O'Donnell led the scoring with 12 points apiece, combining to shoot 5-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Aria Mazza paced the team with 10 rebounds and added five assists, while
Macie Feldman dished out a team-high six assists and blocked three shots.
The Blue Jays now turn their attention to the Bridgewater Classic, where they'll face a pair of nationally ranked opponents. Hopkins takes on No. 19 Catholic on Saturday, November 15, at 6:00 p.m., before meeting No. 20 Christopher Newport on Sunday, November 16, at 3:00 p.m.
