Johns Hopkins Races Past Salisbury, 81-48, For Third Straight Win

Blue Jays Jump to 22-3 Lead, Never Look Back

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's basketball team jumped out to a 22-3 lead seven minutes into the game, led by as many 35 and cruised to an 81-48 non-conference victory over visiting Salisbury Saturday afternoon in Goldfarb Gymnasium.  The win is the third straight for the Blue Jays, who improve to 4-1 on the year, while the Sea Gulls dropped their third straight and slip to 2-5.

Johns Hopkins took all the drama out of the 13th all-time meeting between the two programs early as a Logan Feller three-pointer just 26 seconds into the game ignited the 22-3 game-opening spurt for the Blue Jays.  Feller would score eight of Hopkins' first 10 points, including six on a pair of triples, and Charlie Jackson would score eight straight points in a span of less than 90 seconds to extend a 10-3 lead to an 18-3 cushion.

The lead would swell to a first-half-high 21 (29-8) with 7:47 remaining before halftime on a Jackson layup before a pair of Jamison Graves free throws ignited an 11-4 Sea Gull spurt that trimmed the deficit to 14 (33-19).  Back-to-back Calvin Thomas layups ended the quick run for Salisbury, which would then go scoreless for more than three minutes and saw Hopkins' build the lead back to 20 (40-20) on a Feller three late in the half.  A Patrick Wynne three-pointer in the final seconds brought the 'Gulls back within 17 at the break.

Salisbury had one last push early in the second half as the  Sea Gulls scored the first four points after halftime to pull within 40-27, but a pair of Jeb Williams free throws for the Blue Jays ignited a 10-0 run that took exactly 95 seconds and was punctuated by a fastbreak Williams dunk that pushed the lead to 23 (50-27).

The Blue Jays shot a blistering 68% from the field in the second half (17-of-25) and would later extend the lead to a game-high 35 (79-44) on a Thomas Bruzoni layup with 1:52 remaining before closing with the season-best 33-point margin of victory.

Jackson led five Johns Hopkins players – all five starters – in double figures as with a game-high 19 points, while Feller (13), Williams (11), Tanti Felli (10) and Wyatt Eglinton Manner (10) all scored at least 10 points as well.  In all, 12 different players scored for the Blue Jays, who shot 65.4% from the field (34-for-52) for the game.  The shooting percentage is the sixth-best in program history and the highest for the Blue Jays since November 19, 2017, when they shot 67.8% (40-of-59) in a 118-104 win against Rhodes.

Salisbury got a team-high 12 points from Thomas, who also added a game-high eight rebounds in just over 26 minutes of playing time.  No other Salisbury player reached double figures and the Sea Gulls were outscored in the paint 58-24 in the loss.

The Blue Jays will return to action on Tuesday, December 2 when they welcome Hood to Goldfarb Gymnasium (7 pm).  The Blazers are currently 6-0 on the year and are ranked 24th in the most recent D3hoops.com Poll.
