Blue Jays First NPI Rankings
« In the seesaw that is the NPI rankings, Johns Hopkins ranks first in this week's NPI rankings, the index used by the NCAA for selection to the NCAA Playoffs.
« With an NPI rating of 80.003, the Blue Jays sit just ahead of Mount Union (79.138) and Wartburg (78.467). A team's NPI rating is affected by not just its results, but the results of its opponents. With that, there are a number of games that affect a team's rating.
« The 40-team field for the 2025 NCAA Playoffs will be announced on Sunday, November 16 with first-round games slated for Saturday, November 22.
« Johns Hopkins topped the NPI rankings for games played through October 18 and slid back to number three after the games of October 25 before jumping back to the top this week.
8-0, Again
« Johns Hopkins is 8-0 for the second time in three seasons (2023, 2025) and the eighth time in program history.
« Johns Hopkins first started a season with eight straight wins in 2011 and has since turned the trick in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2023 and 2025..
JHU vs. Ranked Opponents All-Time
« Last week's game against #25/#24 Muhlenberg was Johns Hopkins' 42nd against a team ranked in the top 25 by either the AFCA or D3football.com since 1999 (when the AFCA Poll debuted ... the D3football.com Poll debuted in 2003).
« Johns Hopkins is now 22-20 all-time against teams ranked in the top 25 at the time of the game, including 11-6 in its last 17 games against ranked opponents.
Fourth-Toughest Schedule To-Date
« Not including their games against Johns Hopkins, the Blue Jays' eight opponents to-date are currently a combined 39-17 (.696) on the year. That ranks as the fourth-highest opponent winning percentage in the nation through games of November 1.
« The Blue Jays' 10 regular-season opponents are currently a combined 47-25 (.653) (again, not including games played against JHU). That ranks as the eighth-highest overall opponent winning percentage counting all teams on the schedule.
November Reign
« Entering this week's game against McDaniel, Johns Hopkins is 50-5 in regular season games played in the month of November this century, including 31-2 since 2010.
« JHU has not lost a regular season home game in the month of November since 2007. The Blue Jays have won 19 consecutive regular season home games in November since a 19-11 loss to F&M in 2007.
« In this century, Johns Hopkins is 26-2 in regular season home games in the month of November.
« The Blue Jays are also 18-2 in their last 20 regular season road games in the month of November dating back to 2007.
A Centennial Snapshot
« The race for the Centennial Conference title, possession of the coveted boot and the CC's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Playoffs has come down to two teams.
« Johns Hopkins wins the title outright with two wins.
« Franklin & Marshall wins the title outright with two wins.
« Quite simply, the winner of the regular-season-ending game between Johns Hopkins and Franklin & Marshall will claim the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.]
« Johns Hopkins and F&M are the only two teams remaining that can win the title. If either team loses this week (but not both) and then wins the regular-season-ending game between the two teams, there would be a shared title, but the winner of that game would get the league's automatic bid to the playoffs.
« If Johns Hopkins or Franklin & Marshall loses and the other wins this week, the team that wins this week clinches no worse than a share of the Centennial title.
« Since there is no scenario where both Johns Hopkins and F&M lose twice, the current two-loss teams in the league (Muhlenberg, Carnegie Mellon) cannot get a share of the title.
Schroeder's Big Day
« Senior running back Geoff Schroeder powered Johns Hopkins to the win at Muhlenberg last Saturday as he rushed for a career-high 232 yards and two touchdowns. For his efforts, he was named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
« Schroeder's 232 yards rank as the fifth-best total in program history and are the most by a Blue Jay since Jonathan Rigaud rushed for 238 yards in a win against Ursinus in 2012.
« With his effort against the Mules, Schroeder now has 2,319 career rushing yards and 27 rushing TDs to his credit. He ranks ninth in school history in rushing yards and fifth in rushing TDs. His 16 rushing TDs this season already rank seventh in school history.
Topping 300 on the Ground
« Johns Hopkins rushed for a season-high 356 yards and five touchdowns in the 47-26 win at Muhlenberg last week.
« The 356-yard rushing performance is the 14th-best total in program history and marks the most the Blue Jays have gone for in a game since a 439-yard outing in a win against Western Connecticut St. in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Playoffs.
A Fraternity of One
« Geoff Schroeder's 232-yard rushing performance at Muhlenberg last Saturday came two weeks after Cole Crotty's 228-yard receiving effort in a 52-21 win against Ursinus.
« With those two performances, Johns Hopkins is currently the only NCAA football-playing program that has produced a player with a 225-yard rushing game and a 225-yard receiving game this season. There are two other schools (NC Wesleyan (DIII) and Sacramento St. (FCS)) that have had a 200-yard rusher and a 200-yard receiver this season, but among the 658 schools that play football under the NCAA banner at all four levels, only Johns Hopkins has a 225-yard rusher and a 225-yard receiver this season.
At Home at Homewood
« Including the recent win against Ursinus, the Blue Jays have enjoyed a dominant recent run at Homewood Field.
« Since the start of the 2014 season, the Blue Jays are 60-6 (.909) at Homewood Field; they are 76-9 (.894) at Homewood since 2010.
« JHU won a school-record 19 consecutive games at home from midway through the 2019 season until the 2023 NCAA Quarterfinal.
