NORTON, MA – Johns Hopkins jumped out to a 7-2 lead and didn't look back in a 14-6 win over Austin in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) action Sunday morning. The Blue Jays move to 18-5 overall and 7-0 in MPSF action while the Kangaroos fall to 6-7 and 4-3.
Phillip Long opened the scoring with a six-on-five goal at the 5:41-mark, but Carlos Camarena answered just 13 seconds later to tie the game.
Daniel Palfi then scored a man-up goal to spark a 7-1 run that gave Hopkins that 7-2 lead with 3:08 to play in the half. The run spanned less than 10 minutes and saw five different players score.
Greyson Gaworecki pulled Austin back within three with back-to-back goals just 62 seconds apart.
Owen Bartlett halted the spurt with an even strength goal at 1:01. That ignited another 7-1 run that ballooned the Blue Jays' lead to 14-5. Once again, JHU spread the wealth as six players combined to score the seven goals. Owen Altermatt scored a six-on-five to open the fourth for the 'Roos and make it 14-6. As it turned out, that would be the final score of the game.
Long led the Blue Jays with four goals, including the 100
th of his career, to go with three blocks and two drawn exclusions. Bartlett led the team with four assists and totaled five points, while Palfi also had a five-point outing (3g, 2a).
Mason Hofmann chipped in four points (1g, 3a) and
Luke Mendelsohn drew seven exclusions and blocked four shots. The four blocks tie the school record and the seven drawn exclusions are one shy of the record.

Sebastian Isaacs split time in the cage in the win. Pearson notched nine saves, Poisler had three and Isaacs tallied six.
Hopkins wraps up the weekend against ninth-ranked Augustana on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
