BRYN MAWR, PA – The No. 5/5 Johns Hopkins women's basketball team used a decisive middle stretch to pull away on Saturday afternoon, earning a 93-28 road win at Bryn Mawr inside the Class of 1958 Gymnasium. The Blue Jays move to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in Centennial Conference play, and their 16 made three-pointers set a new single-game program record.
After a slow offensive start and a brief 9-7 deficit in the first quarter, Hopkins closed the period on a 6-0 spurt capped by an
Emily Collins jumper to take the lead for good. The Blue Jays controlled the tempo from there, outscoring the Owls 57-9 across the second and third quarters to break the game open.
Lauren Knudson opened the second quarter with a three-pointer that ignited an 11-0 run, stretching the advantage to 24-9. Triples from
Layla Henderson and
Faith Williamson later in the period sent Hopkins into the half with a 33-13 cushion.
The Blue Jays continued their rhythm from beyond the arc after halftime, starting the third quarter on a 10-0 run and pushing the margin to 30.
Grace Soltes,
Kendall Dunham and Knudson all connected from deep, spearheading another extended scoring burst. A 25-point run shortly after showcased the team's depth, with
Stephanie Theodossakos knocking down three threes and
Isabella Elizondo and
Beth Corelli adding long-range shots of their own.
Bryn Mawr posted its highest-scoring quarter in the fourth, but Hopkins kept firm control.
Aria Mazza and
Quinn O'Donnell each hit a pair of threes down the stretch to close out the scoring.
Theodossakos and Williamson led all scorers with 11 points apiece, with Theodossakos finishing a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. All 14 Blue Jays who entered the game scored and grabbed at least one rebound.
Johns Hopkins returns home on Wednesday, December 31, hosting No. 14 Trinity (CT) in a marquee nonconference matchup. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. inside Goldfarb Gymnasium.
