Hopkins Baseball Cruises Past St. John Fisher in Season-Opener, 7-3

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins baseball team hosted St. John Fisher in its 2025 season opener Saturday afternoon, outscoring the Cardinals 7-3. In Coach Bob Babb's 46th and final opening day at the helm, the Blue Jays took the lead in the opening frame, responding to every challenge Fisher threw at them.

Hopkins (1-0) jumped out to an early lead on an Alex Shane home run, followed by a sac fly from Jacob Harris, giving the Jays a two-run lead. The Cardinals (1-1) responded with two runs of their own, tying the game in the top of the fourth.

When the momentum seemed to shift in Fisher's favor, the Blue Jays were able to string four hits together, regaining the lead 5-2. That proved to be all they needed for the victory; however, Shawn Steuerer wasn't done. The senior added two insurance runs with bombs to both left and center field.

The Blue Jays are back in action Sunday, Feb. 23 to kick off Day 2 of the Baltimore Invitational with a matchup against SUNY Maritime.
