After being held to the 25 first-half points, the Blue Jays erupted for 24 in a third quarter that saw them hit 10-of-15 shots from the floor to build a 49-40 lead at the end of the period. Â Junior
Macie Feldman, who scored the final four points for the Jays in the first half, sparked the third-quarter surge as she scored 13 points in the period on 5-of-8 shooting. Johns Hopkins led 35-32 after a
Victoria Zerbe layup with 5:31 on the clock, but Feldman answered with a triple at the other end and Hopkins would score 14 of the final 22 points of the period to grab the nine-point lead.
Â
The Blue Jays doubled the nine-point lead in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter as they opened the period with a 9-0 run that gave them a 58-40 lead that would never seriously be threatened. A
Kendall Dunham jumper to open the period ignited the nine-point run, which also included a
Grace Soltes three-pointer, a pair of
Greta Miller free throws and a
Michaela O'Neil jumper.
The teams would essentially trade baskets over the final seven minutes. The Devils were within 13 (58-45) after a Zerbe driving layup with 4:55 on the clock, but the Blue Jays held the lead at double figures down the stretch before a
Clair Marion layup for Dickinson with exactly 60 seconds remaining closed the scoring and accounted for the 12-point margin of victory.
Â
A fast-paced first quarter saw the Blue Jays grab an 18-17 lead after the opening 10 minutes. Â In a quarter featuring four lead changes and a pair of ties, it was a
Mia Chapman layup that gave the Devils a 13-9 lead with just over two minutes left on the clock, but the Blue Jays responded with a 9-4 quarter-ending run to grab the one-point lead. A Soltes three-pointer ignited the run for the Blue Jays, who were perfect from the floor (3-for-3) and had four different players score down the stretch.
Â
While the scoring slowed, the intensity remained in a second quarter that would again see the Red Devils build a four-point lead at 25-21 by outscoring the Blue Jays 8-3 to open the quarter. Neither team was overly effective offensively in the first seven minutes of the quarter, but the Red Devils forced the Blue Jays to miss eight of their first nine shots in the period to craft the four-point advantage. In turn, the Blue Jays held Dickinson scoreless over the final three minutes and got a pair of Feldman jumpers down the stretch to pull even at the break.
Â
Feldman paced the Blue Jays with 19 points, including the 13 in the game-turning third quarter. Dunham added 12 points, while
Layla Henderson (7), Miller (6), Murray (6) and Soltes (6) combined for 25 in the victory. Feldman added seven assists, six rebounds and three steals on the night.
Â
Zerbe punched up a team-high 14 points, while Chapman (11) and
Jenna Weinstein (11) combined for 22 points and 16 rebounds in the loss.
