BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins baseball team hosted Johnson & Wales in its fifth game of the season Saturday afternoon, downing the Wildcats 12-2. The Blue Jay offense beat up on every pitcher Johnson & Wales threw its way, scoring all 12 runs in the first six innings on three different pitchers.
The Blue Jays (5-0) first batter of the game,
Dylan Whitney, drove a ball to deep right field to give Hopkins a one-run lead – his first of the season. A pair of defensive miscues then allowed the Wildcats (0-2) to even the game at one-a-piece, before
Dillon Souvignier doubled down the line in the bottom-half of the third to regain the lead; one Hopkins kept for the remainder of the contest.
Hopkins plated an additional nine runs between the fifth and sixth inning, assuring the victory. To match the intensity of the Blue Jay offense,
Kieren Collins earned his second win of the season, accumulating eight of his nine strikeouts in his first four innings of work.
Blue Jay relievers
Tyler Sugrim,
Thomas Cancian and
Cole Eggleston followed suit, throwing three innings of scoreless baseball to make the victory official.
The Blue Jays are back in action Tuesday, March 4 at home with a matchup against Marymount at 3 PM.
