#17 Michigan Upsets #5 Johns Hopkins, 13-2

ANN ARBOR, MI – Host and 17th-ranked Michigan used a 9-0 run over the final 39:47 to beat Johns Hopkins, 13-2, Sunday afternoon in Big Ten action. The Blue Jays fall to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten, while the Wolverines improve to 10-4 and 5-2 in the B1G.

Michigan took the early lead, getting a Calli Norris goal just 40 seconds in. It took nearly 10 minutes, but Hopkins answered at the 4:33-mark to knot the score at 1-1. After a Wolverines' turnover and a Reagan O'Brien clear, some tic-tac-toe passing ended with Taylor Hoss finding Ava Angello on the back door for the score.

Kaylee Dyer put Michigan back on top off a helper from Jill Smith with 2:36 to play in the first to spark a three-goal Wolverines' run. After a Smith goal early in the second, Dyer bookended the run with a score in tight at 10:54 to make it 4-1. Hoss responded just 52 seconds later when she used a Samantha DiCarlo pick to get open and blew home a shot from eight meters out to make it 4-2.

Dyer pushed the lead back to three at the 9:47-mark with her third of the afternoon, igniting a U-M 9-0 game-ending run. Jane Fetterolf followed with a score off the dodge and then Norris scored back-to-back unassisted goals to send the Wolverines into the half with an 8-2 lead. Norris Dyer and Smith combined for all five second-half goals as Michigan grabbed the 13-2 win.

Angello extended her point and goal-scoring streak to 33 games with her first quarter goal. She now ranks seventh in school Division I history with 141 career goals. O'Brien finished with a game-high six caused turnovers and broke the program single-season record (54) with her first of the game. The record was set by Lacey-Leigh Hentz in 2002. Paris Colgain had a game and career-high six ground balls to go with a caused turnover.

Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, April 16 as the Blue Jays host the Penn State Nittany Lions. Opening draw at Homewood Field is slated for 6:00 pm.
