BALTIMORE, MD – The No. 2-ranked Johns Hopkins baseball team faced Dickinson (13-15, 4-7) Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Red Devils 15-7.
Shawn Steuerer provided the game-winning three-run home run in the eighth to power Hopkins to its 11
th consecutive win.
Dickinson jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Red Devils scored their first run on a bunt before extending their advantage with a three-run home run from left fielder Kaden Sigmon.
Hopkins (29-3, 10-1) responded in the bottom of the first when
Dillon Souvignier grounded out, bringing
Jacob Harris home and cutting the lead to 4-1.
After an early struggle, starter
Charles Monterrosa settled in, retiring 14 of the next 16 batters. However, Dickinson managed to add a fifth run on a wild pitch that allowed Nathan Bowman to score from third.
The Blue Jays erased the deficit in the fifth inning.
Dylan Whitney led off with a solo home run, and
Jake Siani followed with a double. Dickinson's starter, Ben Myers, then hit
Jacob Harris and walked
Shawn Steuerer to load the bases. Myers walked the next three batters, one of whom was hit by a pitch, allowing Hopkins to tie the game at 5-5.
In the seventh inning, with the bases loaded,
Clay Hartje delivered a two-run single to right center, giving Hopkins their first lead of the game, 7-5, as
Caleb Cyr and Souvignier crossed the plate.
Dickinson responded with a run in the eighth to pull within one, but Hopkins erupted in the bottom of the frame. Steuerer launched a three-run home run to extend the lead, followed by a two-run shot from Souvignier that cleared University Parkway. Steuerer then added another RBI single to right-center, scoring Harris before
Alex Shane capped the scoring with a two-run single.
The Blue Jays are back in action Friday, April 18 at MacPhail Field, taking on Dickinson in the second game of the home-and-home series with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 PM.

• Steuerer led the Blue Jay offense, going 4-for-5 with a home run, three singles, and a team-high four RBIs. Souvignier matched Steuerer with four RBIs, while Hartje drove in three.

William Boneno earned the win, improving to 3-0 on the season after tossing one inning and striking out one. Monterrosa, who did not factor into the decision, pitched 5.0 innings, allowing five hits, five earned runs and striking out five.
• Souvignier has hit safely in 13 of the last 14 games, while Cyr has scored at least one run in 10 straight games.
